In 2017, the main event at the Mid-Season Invitational had 6 team represent their regions in an international tournament:
China - Team WE
Europe - G2 Esports
Korea - SK Telecom T1
North America - Team SoloMid
South East Asia - GIGABYTE Marines
Taiwan / HK - Flash Wolves
The only team that could return from these 6 is Flash Wolves, who were LMS Champions. China will either send Edward Gaming or Royal Never Give up. Europe will send Fnatic, who beat G2 Esports in the finals. Korea will send Kingzone DragonX (formerly Longzhou), while SKT finished 4th losing in the quarters. North America will send Team Liquid, while TSM didn't even get past quarters. Vietnam has become its own region and their champions, EVOS Esports, beat out GIGABYTE Marines in the finals. Some of these teams such as SK T1 have been at every MSI, so it is a little strange to not see them there, but it is time to recognize that there is some new / old talent that are trying to make a name for themselves. We will see who can come out on top at this year's Mid-Season Invitational.
