Ever since Faker and SK Telecom T1 appeared on the LCK stage on February 2013, they have been a main stay in the LCK Playoffs and in most international events, but earlier this year we saw them miss out on MSI for the 1st time and now they have also missed out on LCK Playoffs. They finished 8-10 with Faker not playing the last several games and a new era may be ahead of us. In Summer 2018, we have a 4-way tie for 1st, all with a 13-5 record, but map score has decided the seeding. KT Rolster finally finished 1st in the Summer Split and will be waiting in the Finals of the Summer Split with a Worlds berth on the line. They were the super team that was supposed to take down SKT when they were created at the end of 2016, but they have failed to perform when it matters most. They finished 2nd in 2017 Spring, 3rd in 2017 Summer, lost to Samsung Galaxy in the 2017 Regional Korean Qualifiers, and 3rd again in 2018 Spring. They are almost guaranteed to go to Worlds, but they also want to win their 1st LCK title with this lineup.
Griffin made a miraculous run from Challenger and have been at the top of the standings all split long, but a slow 2nd half has them sitting in 2nd just behind KT Rolster. These band of rookies are looking to make a splash by winning Challenger and LCK in the same calendar year. The 3rd team is Kingzone DragonX, who made Worlds last year and won 2018 Spring. They have been strong domestically, but have failed to show up on the international stage each time, so they are looking for some redemption this year. To round out the 4-way tie is Gen.G, former 2017 World Champions, who were formerly KSV eSports, who were Samsung Galaxy. They did not have a good Spring Split as they finished 5th, but the prowess of the current World Champions will always be on everyone's mind and they could make another run this year.
