The biggest surprise of Week 1 came before any games were played. Cloud9 made the biggest splash by benching 3 of their starters: Jensen, Smoothie, and Sneaky; they stated that their academy players were playing amazing and deserved the starting spot. TSM followed it up with a promotion of their academy jungler, Grigne, to split time with MikeYueng. A few of the other bottom teams made off-season changes to attempt to challenge for a playoff spot.
Day 1 brought no real surprised, but on Day 2 the Golden Guardians took down Team Liquid in a dominant showing of their new line-up. 100 Thieves dropped to 0-2 and then Echo Fox went 2-0 without killing the nexus. In a strange string of events, Echo Fox were declared winners in their match against Clutch Gaming after the game bugged out at the 35th minute mark. The game could not be chronobreaked and NA LCS Officials declared that the game wasn't going to be remade. Team Solo Mid and Echo Fox are the 2 only undefeated teams, while FlyQuest and 100 Thieves ate the 2 only win-less teams. This meta has thrown a big wrench to all of the NA LCS teams, so it will be interesting to see which teams can take advantage of the chaos.
