The NBA 2K League is chugging along in its inaugural season and they just had their 2nd mid-season tournament, THE TICKET. The seeding for this tournament was determined by a team’s performance during the four weeks of regular-season games preceding THE TICKET. Blazer5 Gaming was the 1st seed while Kings Guard Gaming was the 17th seed. Kings Guard Gaming surprised many by beating Warriors Gaming Squad to enter the main bracket and then upsetting Blazer5 Gaming, eliminating the 1st seed. The seeding had a lot of short term bias, which is probably why a lot of higher seeds beat out lower seeds in the Round of 16. The 1st seed, 2nd seed, 3rd seed, 4th seed, and 7th seed all were eliminated in the 1st round. This included previous tournament champions 76ers GC and Blazer5 Gaming. The semifinals consisted of 5th seed Pistons GT vs 8th seed Celtics Crossover Gaming and 6th seed Cavs Legion GC vs 15th seed Knicks Gaming, these teams are 2nd, 8th, 6th, and 14th respectively in the regular season standings. In the 1st semifinals, the Celtics put up 80 points and cruises to a 80-62 win over the Pistons. In the 2nd semifinals, it was a little closer, but the Knicks were able to advance 74-67 getting past the Cavs. The finals was a back and forth high scoring game and it came down to the wire. Their 15th seed may have surprised everyone, but MVP iamadamthe1st and Knicks Gaming pulled out the victory 83-80, taking home THE TICKET title and a $75k bonus. An added bonus for winning this tournament was an automatic playoff spot and this is much needed as the Knicks are currently 4-8 and sitting in 14th spot. This means that there are only 7 remaining playoff spots to be secured by the other teams. Only Blazer5 Gaming has secured a playoff spot so far along with Knicks Gaming now.
