Overwatch Contenders - Toronto Esports

Toronto Esports is an Overwatch Contenders team representing / partnering with the Boston Uprising in the 2nd division of Professional Overwatch. Toronto Esports was founded in 2016 and immediately hired on Huk as an Overwatch Consultant Manager. Huk was previously a famous Starcraft 2 professional player and has more recently transferred over as a Commentator, Analyst, and Team Manager. Huk left Toronto Esports for a bigger opportunity with the Boston Uprising and now he is their President of Gaming. During the year that Huk was with Toronto Esports, they created a team that consistently finished 1st in smaller events against other Contender level teams.

Prior to partnering with Boston, Toronto fielded a really strong line-up, which got noticed within the community and many of whom got offers from teams in the Overwatch League and Overwatch Contenders. Toronto decided to disband and allow all their players to accept these bigger opportunities. NotE and Snow went to the Boston Uprising, Cynic went to Mayhem Academy, ONIGOD went to Angry Titans, Jaru went to EnVision eSports and moth went to the San Francisco Shock.

Dalton and nero returned to Toronto Esports as they were building their new Overwatch Contenders roster; joining the 2 Americans would be 3 Koreans and 1 British players. Even though they were a brand new team, Toronto Esports had a great management team and it showed as they got their team playing extremely well together. They dominated the group stages with a map score of 17 wins, 3 losses, and 0 draws; going 4-1 and finishing 1st in Group A. In the quarterfinals, they went up against NRG Esports and beat them 3-1. They advanced to the semifinals to face off against their fellow Canadian rivals, EnVision eSports, who they also beat 3-1. In the finals, they came up against Philadelphia University (the Fusion's Contender team), who also finished 1st in Group B with a perfect 5-0 record. The Fusion were just too much as Toronto fell 4-1 and finished 2nd in Season 1 of Overwatch Contenders. Their run into the finals and map wins during the group stages netted them $23,419.

Some of these guys are Overwatch League level talent and they will be looking to continue to improve as a team. Toronto Esports has the makings of being a competitive Overwatch team, whether they stay in Contenders or eventually make the jump up to the Overwatch League, but one thing is for certain, there is a strong focus on development and teamwork and they will always put up a fight.
